Cooper Tire Day of Action

Brothers and sisters we are asking that you would come out and help us in support of our fellow brothers who were locked out of the Cooper Tire factory in Findlay, Ohio. They were locked out and then replaced by temps and replacement workers. Please come out and help us hand out leaflets in support of our fellow brothers and sisters.

NOTE: The LAR Negotiation Committee will be in the plant doing a Q&A on all contract changes with all crews starting Friday February 3, 2012

ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery & Vernon Lubricants Plant (USW Local 675)

A Tentative Agreement (TA) has been reached with the Company. The TA will be discussed at tonight’s regular Unit meeting at 6:00 PM at the Carson Union Hall. A ratification vote is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, and Thursday, February 9. Polls will be open from 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM.

U.S. Refiners, Steelworkers Said to Reach Tentative Agreement

U.S. refiners and the United Steelworkers reached tentative agreement on a new three-year contract, averting a potential strike that would have idled as many as 69 plants, according to three union representatives with direct knowledge of the talks.

The proposal includes pay increases of 2.5 percent in the first year and 3 percent in the second and third years, said the representatives who asked not to be named because the terms haven’t yet been made public.

The deal was reached today after negotiations that started Jan. 14 in Austin, Texas, between the union representing 30,000 workers and Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA), which was bargaining on behalf of the companies. The current agreement expires at midnight Houston time.

Other companies involved include Valero Energy Corp. (VLO), Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), BP Plc (BP/), ConocoPhillips (COP), Chevron Corp., Marathon Oil Corp., Sunoco Inc., Tesoro Corp. (TSO) and PBF Energy Inc.

If no deal was reached, the union could have called a general strike or agreed to extend negotiations in 24-hour increments.

Tesoro Rally Recap
